June 3rd, 2024- Last Wednesday, elected officials and business owners from across the state announced a letter they jointly signed and sent to South Carolina House and Senate leadership and the Governor requesting that Sine Die is amended on June 5 to include Executive Office of Health Policy (S915), members of the General Assembly also amend to include the SC Justice Act (S533). The latter bill, if passed, would modify the SC Contribution Among Tortfeasors Act. This change would allow a court to consider the percentage of fault of any nonparty or party with a settlement agreement when determining the rate of fault of the named parties. Such a modification would be a significant boon for South Carolina’s small businesses, relieving them of the burden of high liability insurance costs.

The SC Venue Crisis team and many of the business owners who support our efforts to change Joint and Several Liability laws, as well as elected officials who have spearheaded this effort and signed the letter, will hold a press conference at the Statehouse at 11 AM on Wednesday before the House and Senate go back into session. Since launching the letter, over 600 concerned citizens and business owners across the state have signed on to show their support. We need even more! Sign the letter.

While you’re at it, sign our petition, will ya? Please and thank you! We hope to see you at the State House on Wednesday!
