Let’s try this AGAIN!
Tornado warnings blew away our first attempt to host the SC Tort Reform Rally. Though our excitement was temporarily dampened, our determination still shines bright, much like the forecast for this Tuesday, February 20th, the makeup rally date.
Since our original rally date, Senate and House subcommittees have met to discuss legislation directly related to liquor liability laws and the ever-rising insurance rates that plague our small businesses. We hope the legislators will quickly come to a positive resolution to the problem.
However, in a Senate subcommittee meeting, Senator Dick Harpootlian stated that he is “not interested in adjusting our liquor liability laws.” He also said, “So the dive bar gets put out of business because they can’t afford the insurance, and the restaurant rates go down. I mean, it seems to me that’s the perfect solution…”
We disagree! Do you? If so, join us at the rally!
We appreciate your help raising awareness of the need for more balanced liability laws to protect South Carolina’s small businesses from frivolous lawsuits. While traveling to Columbia on a weekday may be inconvenient, losing your favorite music venue, bar, restaurant, or other small business to outrageous liability insurance rates would be far worse.
Here are the details.
Monday 2.19.24 – Pre-Rally Meet-up
- 6:30 – 9:30 pm – Art Bar (1211 Park St. Columbia)
- Enjoy dinner and beverages while networking with owners, patrons, insurance agents, and others interested in saving our small businesses.
Tuesday 2.20.24 – SC State House (Pendleton St. entrance)
- 11:00 – 11:30 am – Music and networking
- 11:30 am – Speakers impacted by outrageous liability insurance rates followed by networking
What if you can’t be there?
- Share this information with your community. The more people who know about this issue, the better.
- Call or email your legislators and ask them to commit to TORT REFORM in 2024. Ask them to support the SC Justice Act.
- If you need to find out who your legislators are, this link will help. Enter your address, and a list of your district Senators and Representatives will appear.
We hope to see you on the back steps of the State House for the SC Tort Reform Rally on Tuesday, February 20th!
