This is an URGENT Call to ACTION!
It is vital that we contact our state Senators and ask them to remove Section F from Senate bill 533 (The SC Justice Act).
(F) This section does not apply to a defendant whose conduct is determined to be wilful, wanton, reckless, grossly negligent, or intentional or conduct involving the use, sale, or possession of alcohol or the illegal or illicit use, sale, or possession of drugs.
Section F removes alcohol sellers from the benefits of S. 533. Every locally owned bar, music venue, brewery, distillery, winery, pool hall, bowling alley, and any other establishment with a South Carolina liquor license will not be protected by the bill.

Please email and call your Senator by the close of business on Monday, April 1, 2024. There are members of the Senate who are strongly opposed to the sale or consumption of alcohol and seem to be working hard to make it illegal. So when YOUR Senator walks into the Senate chamber on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
The current law allows a business that has as little as 1% fault in an incident to be held 100% liable. That’s caused insurance carriers to leave the state. The two remaining insurance carriers have raised rates to cover the payouts. Our small businesses are struggling to pay the astronomical rates. Many are closing. Those who remain open have to pass the cost along to their customers. It’s a lose/lose situation.
CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS AND ASK THEM TO SUPPORT THE SC JUSTICE ACT. S533 and REMOVE Section F.
