As many of you know, this is a sad thing for the Upstate. The Spinning Jenny has been a massive part of the community and not just for music. 😢

Their Facebook post on August 30 stated that the building had been sold. Out of curiosity, we asked if liability insurance rates had anything to do with their decision to close.

Co-owner Sharon Murry responded that the rate increases were “not a major factor. But rising costs, including those, contributed” to them not being able to continue in some form. Yeah… A 300% increase in rates will do that. 😤 The Spinning Jenny will be sorely missed. 💔

We, the SC Venue Crisis team, always want to make sure the facts are out there. Please, support SC’s small businesses. Our friends and our economy depend on it. 🤘💙🎶 OH… AND CALL THE GOVERNOR AND YOUR LEGISLATORS! They will only take action if we KEEP MAKING NOISE! We ARE the “lobbyists.”

Dear Jenny Family,

We wanted to let you know that The Spinning Jenny is closing. We have enjoyed these last 8 years with you all … music, dance, art, community events, sports, etc. But, now it’s time for us to move on to other opportunities. You all have meant so much to us and we have made the dearest friends. Your support has been amazing. We hope that you will join us in this last month of events together so we can go out strong! Our final show will be Oct. 6th for Rocktoberfest: Dark Side of the Moon.

(Just so you know, the property has been sold to developers and will become something different — we don’t know what.)

We will still be around putting on events 😃(Huzzah!)

Keep supporting the Arts!

Much love,
Sarah & Sharon
